Without Remorse

So ms. Lohan’s home has been burglarized. Or so says her publicist. Police are, according to the report in the Trib, “investigating whether anything has actually been taken.”

Here is the best line:

A statement from the performer’s publicist, Leslie Sloane: “many of (Lohan’s) personal belongings were taken without remorse.” Do you suppose the remaining belongings were hauled away with loads of remorse? Or perhaps the burglars took everything they could in good conscience and left the rest to ease their troubled minds? Sounds like a failed attempt to drum up sympathy. Aren’t all burglars “without remorse”? Particularly those breaking into “performers” homes for valuables?

Think Utah is the Safest Place on Earth? Think Again.

I was doing some interesting research after reading an opinion in the newspaper about the safety of walking alone in the dark. There are many nincompoops in Utah that turn a blind eye to reality, but if you look at the stats below, you will see that Provo has over twice the rate of forcible rape as New York City, and almost as much as Los Angeles.

Couple that with the number of sexual predators that live in our fair city (73 within two miles of my home), and you have good enough reason to lock your doors.

Now Obama is calling the recession the “worst financial crisis in history” (watch from 4:20 on). Scary language like this is what has been consistently used during the downturn to pass “emergency” legislation and other power-grabbing moves (TARP come to mind?). Just imagine what a nightmare it would have been had Obama succeeded in pushing the healthcare reform through congress before the summer recess. Ugh.

If you listen to this radio interview from the beginning, you will hear Mr. President blame the GM bailouts and forced bankruptcy on “a conservative republican administration.” True, the company was doing poorly before Obama began his presidency, but there is no denying that he has been the driving force behind the government-sponsored bankruptcy, pushing them through court, and the like.

It is dishonest and sneaky rhetoric that worries me when I consider our political future. But I guess it is true, that politicians can let no crisis go unwasted. Let’s just hope that they don’t “unwaste” this one too much.
